Parshat Korach
Parshat Korach
Parshat Korach
TWO WOMEN, TWO BATTLES, TWO APPROACHES AND TWO OUTCOMES.
This past Shabbat we read about Korach and his battle/struggle/war against Moshe Rabbeinu (Moses) and G-d.
Not as much attention is paid to Ohn ben Peles, who was one of his co-conspirators, yet for some reason he was not buried alive with Korach and his 250 men.
Commentaries teach us that each one was driven by his wife.
Korach's wife egged him on daily complaining about Moshe and Aharon, but more importantly on Elitzofon ben Uziel, a son of the youngest of the four brothers. Ultimately, her nagging is what led him to stage this revolt aganst Moshe and G-d.
On swore allegiance to Korach and promised to back him up all the way.
So why wasnt he there?
Our Sages teach us that his wife, asked his permission to save him. He put his fate in her hands.
She served him lots of wine until he drank himself to sleep.
Once he was asleep, she closed the bedroom door and then removed her head covering. When Korach's men came to get him, they were faced with a dillema of entering Ohn's home as his wife's hair was uncovered, and as they were all righteous people, they left. Ohn slept through the ordeal and thus was saved.
THIS IS THE POWER OF THE WOMAN.
