Rabbi Avtzon is the senior Rabbi of the Sephardic community of Crown Heights and Rav of the Cong. Merkaz Sepharad. 

Nothwithstanding being as Ashkenazi Jew, Rabbi Avtzon's experience as a Shliach of the Lubavitcher Rebbe ob"m to Morocco in 1983 - 1984, and subsequent marriage to his wife Sarah Abitbol from Morroco, has earned him the respect of the Sephardic community who actually consider him one of their own.
