Nigeria
In 2009, Rabbi Israel Uzan visited Nigeria as a Rabbinical student sent by Chabad of Central Africa to host a communal Passover Seder. Over the next two years, he returned several more times for the High Holidays and Passover.
In November 2011, Rabbi Uzan returned with his wife Chaya to open a new center. They started in Lagos, but after several months there, it became evident that the center should be relocated to Abuja where the larger Jewish community lives.
Since then, they have opened a community center, Synagogue, pre school and recently innaugurated the first Mikvah built in Western Africa.
The Global Jewish Assistance is involved with all their programs and very active in their development, assisiting with sending groups of Rabbinical students throughout the year for major Jewish holidays, fundraising efforts and in the growth of their programs.
