Chanukah in ISRAEL
The month of Kislev is often referred to as the month of Nisim (Miracles). During this month we celebrate the miracle of Chanukah!
Every Jewish child anticipates Chanukah! As the scent of Jelly doughnuts and Latkes fills the air in neighborhoods across Israel, there is a sense of excitement and joy. Schools and communities prepare for the Chanukah festivities, and the excitement of this holiday fills the hearts and homes of thousands of children and their families. Dreidel games, presents, pastries, chocolate coins, lighting the menorah, there is so much to anticipate!
Many Jewish holidays celebrate the miracles we have witnessed as a nation, but what stands out about why we celebrate Chanukah is that it is apparent that the miracle of our victory was not a miracle understood within nature. The Maccabees were such a tiny group in comparison with the great Greek Army. The miracle is quite apparent when reflected in numbers.
Chanukah is an example of how our unity saved us, our unity lit up the darkness enough to fight off bloodshed and protect our people. So too was this same miracle apparent in the oil that lasted 8 days. The oil lasted to ensure that we have what it takes to celebrate this miracle back then, and this also stands true today!
But what happens when a child cannot celebrate? As terror increases in Israel and inflation explodes, there are thousands of families who lack the ability to provide Chanukah celebrations! They cannot provide presents or doughnuts for they struggle to obtain food on a daily basis! It is during these struggling times that we as a nation are to stop and reflect: Where is our unity?
Inflation has left the needy, as well as hard-working families in need of funds to sustain their families! The thought of Chanukah is merely an added pressure for many parents, as they are unable to provide their children with holiday celebrations when they are struggling to provide them with basic needs!
THIS is where YOU come in, and THIS is why we are here!
Our mission at JAR is to ensure that families in Israel have basic food and necessities in order to feed their families and join in the celebration of the festival of lights! By donating Food Cards today YOU are ensuring that needy families in Israel CAN celebrate Chanukah with joy and hope in their hearts!
This is where our unity is! In moments of darkness, YOU are your struggling brethren’s light!
Please donate Food Cards for needy families in Israel for the Chanukah holiday! For:

In the merit of your generous Food Card donation may you and your loved ones, and all of Am Yisrael, have a joyful and peaceful Chanukah!
Each month throughout the year, the Jewish Assistance & Relief Network (JAR) provides close to 2,000 Food Cards for needy families in Israel with a minimum value of $96 to as much as $600, and during the holidays, the numbers go up to 3-5,000 families with assistance of at least $90 to help with the added holiday expenses.
Meet our volunteers and professionals making all of this happen in Israel!
Highlights of the Food Card Program:
Recipients are chosen by local Ministry of Welfare offices based on specified criteria; many families work, but are struggling to make ends meet. Some lost their jobs, family sickness, economic hardships caused by the war on terror, death, etc.
Families receive pre-paid food debit cards accepted throughout Israel at any of the 400 Branches of Supersol, Blue Square National Supermarket, Machsanei HaShuk, Victory, and Yeinot Beitan chain stores, where they shop with dignity, and are able to buy foods of their choice.
Our Food Cards are pre programmed so that families can only purchase basic food and household products, and exclude any purchase of cigarettes, alcohol, clothing, cosmetics, electronics, or gourmet foods.
Food Cards are issued for six months and sometimes extended for another six months if there are extenuating circumstances, giving families time to adapt to their new economic situation and to learn how to live within their means.
Recipient families are overseen by their local welfare officers with additional oversight by the Jewish Assistance Fund, the Israeli arm of JAR.
Food Cards are programmed with different amounts based on donor specifications and recipient needs.
Cards are issued throughout the year, including during war and holidays. Recipients come from all walks of life and from all over Israel with absolutely no discrimination, and include: orphans, single parent families, holocaust survivors, the elderly, soldiers of the IDF, and special needs children, etc.
Our administrative budget in Israel is covered by the rebates we receive from the national retailers so that 100% of your donation goes directly to feed needy families. There is NO warehouse and logistical fees spent to cover packaging and distribution costs as families receive their cards in the mail and then go shop like all other citizens.
With blessings for a bright and illuminating Festival of Lights!
With best wishes,
Thank you!
Happy Chanukah!
